Science Update Week 5 Term 3

Hi Guys,
WALT: Learn about the causes of gases
Today, we had a science lesson. In science, we learnt about different types of gases, like: Carbon Dioxide Co2 and other gases like that. We learnt the different atomic signatures for different elements. Like salt is NaCl and oxygen is O, and water is H20. You may be wondering, what does this have to do with my update? Well here is how:

As part of an experiment, we had to put in two teaspoons of baking soda and citric acid in a cup, and then we put in vinegar. As a result, it started fizzing up, and then spilled over my group's table.

Then as another experiment, we had to grab:
- An old, washed beer bottle
- Some Citric Acid, and Baking Soda
- A balloon
What we had to do was fill the beer bottle up to where the neck starts. Then we had to blow the balloon up, and stretch the neck, and then put in a tablespoon of Baking Soda and Citric Acid. We then had to stretch the mouth of the balloon over the top of the beer bottle. We tipped the balloon upside-down, and all the contents went into the water. The result, was truly amazing. When the contents of the balloon was tipped into the water, the two chemicals collided, and created carbon dioxide, (Co2), which created fizz in the water, and trapped gas between the water and the balloon. As a result, the balloon was filled with carbon dioxide, and was blown up, (without exploding). Then, of course, we had to tidy up.

I hope you enjoyed this update.
Cheers,
Azriel.
