Formal Dancing

Hi guys,
Yes, it is that time again, formal dance. Every year, the year 7/8s' have to participate in a formal. And of course, we have to practice. Today I will tell you about what we do in Formal Practices.

WALT: Learn a variety of different dances to perform at formal.

Right now, the dances that we are learning are, the Rock 'n' Roll Reel, and the Waltz.

My next step is to: Learn the Line Dance, and the Jitterbug.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post!

Reflection On Term 3

Hi guys,
I don't think that I have ever published a reflection on my Learning Portfolio, so I thought, better late than never!
Here are three things that I have done well in Term 3:
- Putting out the flags, and other responsibilities as a house captain.
- Turning up to my leadership responsibilities, e.g: Peer Mediation, PALs' etc.
- Trying my best in class.

I have done well as a House Captain in term 3, because I have sometimes reminded people to put out the Oaklands School Flags, and I have been trying really hard to co-ordinate events.

I have done well in my responsibilities because sometimes I remind my team mates to turn up as well.

I have done well in class, because I show resilience in class, when I don't understand a certain concept of learning.

Enjoy your holidays!

Cheers,
Azriel.

Update About Showing My Leadership In Kapa Haka

Hi guys,
I have only ever done one, update about showing my leadership in Kapa Haka, so I may as well do another one. I have shown my leadership in Kapa Haka, by:
- Teaching the younger students the haka, and doing it patiently
- Trying to be a role model to the younger students doing Kapa Haka by trying my best, and always trying to remember the actions
- Sometimes telling my friends to be quiet and to sing to the best of the ability so I am not being a hypocrite
- And overall, trying my best.

This is part of my leadership proof for my Merit leadership badge.

Cheers,
Azriel.

Reading Update Week 5 Term 3

Hi Guys,
For reading this week, we have been trying to identify the author's purpose by identifying the main publishing conventions in a text. It sounds like gibberish doesn't it? This means that we will learn why the author, for example, put a picture sideways, or made a font bigger in the title. These are called publishing conventions.
To showcase what we learnt, we had to create a mini poster, showcasing the publishing conventions that we learnt about.
Cheers,
Azriel.

Science Update Week 5 Term 3

Hi Guys,
WALT: Learn about the causes of gases
Today, we had a science lesson. In science, we learnt about different types of gases, like: Carbon Dioxide Co2 and other gases like that. We learnt the different atomic signatures for different elements. Like salt is NaCl and oxygen is O, and water is H20. You may be wondering, what does this have to do with my update? Well here is how:

As part of an experiment, we had to put in two teaspoons of baking soda and citric acid in a cup, and then we put in vinegar. As a result, it started fizzing up, and then spilled over my group's table.

Then as another experiment, we had to grab:
- An old, washed beer bottle
- Some Citric Acid, and Baking Soda
- A balloon
What we had to do was fill the beer bottle up to where the neck starts. Then we had to blow the balloon up, and stretch the neck, and then put in a tablespoon of Baking Soda and Citric Acid. We then had to stretch the mouth of the balloon over the top of the beer bottle. We tipped the balloon upside-down, and all the contents went into the water. The result, was truly amazing. When the contents of the balloon was tipped into the water, the two chemicals collided, and created carbon dioxide, (Co2), which created fizz in the water, and trapped gas between the water and the balloon. As a result, the balloon was filled with carbon dioxide, and was blown up, (without exploding). Then, of course, we had to tidy up.

I hope you enjoyed this update.
Cheers,
Azriel.

Winter Sport

Hi Guys,
I don't think I have EVER posted an update of what has been going on in Winter Sport, so, I better start now. I am in the Oaklands Football A Team, and we have done really well this season. We have won all of our games, except one, where we lost against Sumner A Team. Today, we are versing Halswell A Team for the finals. The last game where we versed Halswell, we drew 1-1. In the South West Zones competition, we won all of our games, so we are moving on to the Canterbury's Competition. I hope you enjoyed this post about sport!
Cheers,
Azriel.
